Troubleshooting: Why Won't My Instagram Download Work?
Here are the most common reasons why an Instagram download fails and exactly how to fix each one.
Error: "Unable to find media"
This is the most common error and almost always means one of the following:
- The Instagram account has been set to private after you copied the link.
- The post, Reel, or Story has been deleted by the creator.
- The link you pasted is not a valid Instagram content URL (e.g. a profile link instead of a post link).
- Instagram has temporarily restricted access to that content by region or age gate.
Error: "This is a private account"
Our downloader is intentionally limited to publicly accessible content. We do not have the ability to access private Instagram accounts, nor would it be appropriate to do so. If a previously public account has been made private, its content can no longer be downloaded.
The Link Doesn't Work at All
If the downloader shows no response or an "Unsupported URL" error, your link may be malformed. Valid Instagram content URLs follow these patterns:
- Reels: https://www.instagram.com/reel/SHORTCODE/
- Posts: https://www.instagram.com/p/SHORTCODE/
- Stories: https://www.instagram.com/stories/username/STORY_ID/
- Profiles: https://www.instagram.com/username/ or just @username
Shared links from Instagram DMs or share sheets may have extra tracking parameters. These are still valid — the downloader strips the extra parameters automatically.
The Download Starts but the File is Corrupted or Empty
This can happen if:
- Your network connection dropped during the download. Try again on a stable WiFi connection.
- Your device storage is full. Free up space and retry.
- The browser tab was closed before the download completed. Keep the tab open and active.
Google Drive Upload Failed
- Session expired: Your Google OAuth session timed out. Re-connect via 'Sign in with Google'.
- Folder deleted: The folder you selected in Drive has been moved or deleted. Open the folder picker and choose a new destination.
- Storage full: Your Google Drive storage is at capacity. You can still download to your device directly.
- Permissions revoked: You manually revoked access from your Google Account settings. Re-connect the integration.
Downloads Are Very Slow
Instagram Reel files are typically 20–80MB depending on length and quality. On mobile data, this may take 30–90 seconds. For the fastest experience:
- Connect to a 5GHz WiFi network rather than cellular.
- Avoid downloading during peak network congestion hours.
- Keep your browser tab active — some mobile browsers pause downloads when the tab is backgrounded.
